What is breast augmentation?

Breast augmentation (augmentation mammaplasty) places a breast implant behind each breast to add volume and improve shape. It is one of the most common cosmetic surgeries in the world and a core part of the mommy makeover, which Dr. La'O specializes in.

Spectra uses Mentor MemoryGel silicone implants, which are designed to feel soft and natural. One pair is included in the breast augmentation rate.

Who is a good candidate?

• Women who want fuller breasts or better balance with their hips and figure
• Mothers who lost breast volume after pregnancy or breastfeeding
• Women with uneven breast sizes who want better symmetry
• Patients who lost volume after significant weight loss
• Adults in good health with realistic expectations, ideally non-smokers

If your breasts are also sagging, a breast lift may be recommended together with or instead of implants. Dr. La'O will assess this at your consultation.

Your consultation and surgical plan

Your plan is built around your body and goals. During consultation, Dr. La'O discusses implant size and profile, where the incision will be placed, and whether the implant sits above or below the chest muscle. You will understand the options and the reasons for the recommendation before deciding anything.

Before surgery, standard laboratory tests (such as CBC, blood chemistry, ECG and chest X-ray) and a medical clearance from Spectra's in-house cardiologist or internist are required. The clearance is ₱2,500 and is usually done by teleconsultation.

Recovery and aftercare

• Soreness, tightness and swelling are normal for the first several days
• A support bra or surgical garment is worn as instructed
• Most patients return to light desk work after about 1 week
• Avoid heavy lifting and strenuous exercise for about 4 to 6 weeks
• Implants settle into a softer, more natural position over the following months

Follow-up visits are included in your rate so Dr. La'O can monitor your healing.

Risks and safety

All surgery carries risk. With breast augmentation these include infection, bleeding, changes in nipple or breast sensation, asymmetry, scar tissue tightening around the implant (capsular contracture), implant rupture or rippling, and a rare type of lymphoma linked mainly to textured implants (BIA-ALCL). Breast implants are not lifetime devices, and some patients need another operation in the future.

Breast augmentation cost in the Philippines

At Spectra, breast augmentation starts at ₱165,000 including one pair of Mentor MemoryGel implants, and ₱220,000 with Mentor Extra High Profile implants. The rate typically includes consultation, the doctor's fee, anesthesia, medications, garments and follow-up care. Laboratory tests are paid directly to the diagnostic center.
